What is a Super Bowl party without killer appetizers?
This one is a favorite of mine – Buffalo Chicken Dip. A classic of all classics. Shredded chicken covered in creamy, cheesy buffalo sauce with a little touch of celery to cut through the rich deliciousness. *Sigh* Yum.
So, in honor of Super Bowl Weekend, I had to share this touchdown (lol) of an appetizer with you so that you can bring it to your game watch this weekend.
Buffalo Chicken Dip: The real champion of ANY sporting event
Now, I have to be honest — I am not a huge fan of sitting on the couch and watching sports. I usually find the entire activity – or lack of activity – particularly boring, and my interest level in whatever game is on usually hovers around zero.
HOW 👏EV 👏ER… I DO get unbelievably jacked up for events like the Super Bowl, the Masters, the McGregor fights, and other big sports nights because it’s such a fun opportunity to get together with friends. Even better, I get the chance to cook my tail off in the kitchen, making allof my favorite appetizers for the event.
Despite the fact that this blog post is centered around Super Bowl Weekend, if you happen to be someone who TRULY could not care less about sports, have no fear – this dip is also delicious when watching Bravo. Cat fights on Real Housewives are sporting events too, right? 😂 Make the dip anyway; you won’t regret it.
Healthier chips for Buffalo Chicken Dip: celery sticks
Since I started this blog, I have received a LOT of great feedback on the low-carb recipes I post. This recipe will not receive that same feedback, because this recipe is not exactly low carb. HOWEVER,
I do have a simple, lower-carb substitutionfor this dish that won’t take away from the flavor: Instead of using tortilla chips, chop up a few stalks of celery into thirds and use them as your “chip.” This change won’t quite put this Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe on the “hun-cal” menu, but it’s a start, and it really does taste great.
Because celery is often used as a side for buffalo wings, the flavors naturally pair well together. Celery has a very refreshing crunch, so it does a great job cutting through the heaviness of all the cheese.
Better yet, you can count on your celery to not break off mid-dip (lol – things that drive me crazy…)
Rotisserie chicken for the win
Per usual, I recommend that you buy rotisserie chicken instead of baking your own or using canned chicken (which is apparently a thing — *gag*).
Apart from limiting cooking time, rotisserie chicken shreds super easily, and well-shredded chicken is a necessity for Buffalo Chicken Dip.
ENJOY YOUR BUFFALO DIP! If you enjoyed this recipe, please let me know in the comments below! And be on the look out for more yummy appetizers to come 😉
